I love wearing orange & blue together, so seeing orange rocks & blue skies while hiking in the Grand Canyon...felt like I got the memo lol Hi Reader :) Yun-A here with this month's Wednesday Wisdom* about creating looks that inspire you on repeat. I knew the Grand Canyon would be an epic trip, but what I didn't expect was all the style inspiration! Leading up to the trip, I'd mainly been focused on whether I'd manage the 8-hour hike down 😅 *spoiler alert* I made it down. The landscape was my biggest motivator, with every new turn I exclaimed "Wow! So beautiful!" from tiny flowers to huge rocks...I found inspiration everywhere. Vacations are wonderful, but what about daily life? When choosing an outfit or furniture, we want it to look & feel AMAZING. Is it possible to generate that 'WOW so beautiful!' reaction consistently with the items we own? "YAS it is!" You think it's the objects (flowers, pillows...etc) that inspire you. What's inspiring you are the design elements & principles (lines, patterns, texture, contrast..etc) in those objects. Every visible item has design elements & principles but certain ones stand out more to you. Think of design elements & principles like making a meal. The purpose of them is the flavor created when combined. When you have a favorite meal, you're extra intentional about the ingredients & recipe used to get the flavor you love. Knowing your favorite design elements & principles (aka your aesthetic style) is like knowing the ingredients & recipe of your favorite meal. Using your aesthetic style intentionally helps you to create delicious looks on repeat, yas! Remember how I like wearing orange & blue? I wore that long before the Grand Canyon trip. Even my living room is a balance of orange & blue pillows and wall decor. When I walk into my living room, I can't help but smile. That's not a coincidence, it's very intentional because I designed that room based on my aesthetic style 'color & balance'. My husband was also saying "Wow so beautiful!" at every turn on the trail because I know his aesthetic style: 'value (gradation of light to dark) & contrast' I wasn't surprised to see him taking tons of photos of the contrasting shadows created by various rock formations. If he wanted to create an outfit to match, he could choose tops and pants with contrasting light & dark shades ;) Styling based on the personal details you love is the 'secret sauce' to creating looks that inspire you again & again. Wishing you a wonderful end of May! Lots of love, Yun-A P.S. Here's the blog post round-up for April & May. Read them all here.
