It took me two decades to wear yellow after my Grandma's nonchalant comment 'I don't like how yellow looks on you.' I was nine but it stuck with me... Hi Reader :) Yun-A here with this month's Wednesday Wisdom. Have you had an experience where someone said something that caused you to question your style? That's a style wound. Style wounds are part of why I created Your Aesthetic Style but I realized something earlier this month that connected the dots even deeper. 😲 In style wound moments, it's an item we LOVE that we're questioned about. You loved it because it had design elements & principles of your aesthetic style. In my case, I'd lost my favorite yellow tee and was shopping with my Grandma to find a similar tee but had a hard time finding a replacement. That's when she commented, trying to help me choose a different color. It wasn't meant to be hurtful but because that yellow tee had been my favorite shirt, the thought that it didn't look good on me was troubling. Especially coming from my grandma who I admired when it came to shopping advice. The biggest impact of not wearing yellow until my thirties is how it hindered my self-expression. My aesthetic style is a combination of the design element 'color' and design principle 'balance'. A person with 'color' in their aesthetic style loves playing with color palettes. Eliminating yellow, a primary color, from my color options also eliminated several color palette possibilities with it. 😢 What about you? Is there a certain type of item, color, or print you avoid using? Can you trace back to a specific moment when you began avoiding it? But here's the most important question: What would it be like to bring that back into your life? To have the joy it used to bring...as part of your style again? Now that I've embraced yellow again I wear it with so many colors... blue, pink, purple...I can't imagine my closet without it! Connecting back to WHY you love what you love gives you the confidence to make decisions rooted in what's beautifully personal to you. I want to give a special shout-out to YAS Owner* Daniela! She sparked this discovery after our podcast conversation. Watch it here. We dive deep into our aesthetic styles and how transformative re-learning to trust ourselves is. 💗 Wishing you a wonderful last few days of February and...here's a sneak peek into March ;) I'm hosting an event for companies to sharpen their sustainability leadership. If the company/organization you work for is looking to participate in Zero Waste Day (March 30th) or Earth Day (April 22) stay tuned for my March Wednesday Wisdom email. 🙌 Lots of love, Yun-A *YAS Owners is my program for business owners to apply their aesthetic style to branding and graphic design.
