“Sometimes I have trouble committing to a certain style because..."

"...I can't fulfill the idea in my head.”

Hi Reader :)

It’s Yun-A here, if you can relate you might be overthinking your style - too much in your head & not trusting your eyes. And it’s totally understandable!

Especially with items we already own, it’s hard to look at them objectively. There are feelings, memories, and energies attached to them - a history.

I was recently recommended to join two interior design Q&A groups on Facebook. I’ve read questions about paint, wall decor, and room layouts. But by far the most common post is a photo of a room and the question: “Something’s missing, what do you recommend?”

These posts get lots of comments because they're easy to respond to. For the poster they get objective feedback - seeing the room with ‘fresh eyes’. But there’s also a downside 😶

Sometimes the feedback is a bit harsh or about things they weren’t bothered by before….and now they’re second-guessing their style. Noooooooo (picture me silently gesturing dramatically 😅)

There’s an easier way to get an objective perspective. Learn to turn off concepts/comparisons and just visually observe. This is what artists do. They don’t see a snowy mountain - they focus on the shadows of light and dark. We can train ourselves the same way and that's the secret to continuously approaching our clothes & home with fresh eyes.

I personally believe this is the future of style culture - a response to information overload. Turning inward silences overwhelm & spotlights the beauty that’s already there 💗 yas!

Lots of love,

Yun-A
